چکیده

We investigate the stability of a family of spherically symmetric static solutions in vacuum Brans-Dicke theory ~with v50) recently described by van Putten. Using linear perturbation theory, we find one exponentially growing mode for every member of the family of solutions, and thus conclude that the solutions are not stable. Using a previously constructed code for spherically symmetric Brans-Dicke theory, additional evidence for instability is provided by directly evolving the static solutions with perturbations. The full nonlinear evolutions also suggest that the solutions are black-hole-threshold critical solutions. @S0556-2821~97!00810-2#

OPTIMAL SOLUTION OF RICHARDS’ EQUATION FOR SLOPE INSTABILITY ANALYSIS USING AN INTEGRATED ENHANCED VERSION OF BLACK HOLE MECHANICS INTO THE FEM

One of the most crucial problems in geo-engineering is the instability of unsaturated slopes, causing severe loss of life and property worldwide. In this study, five novel meta-heuristic methods are employed to optimize locating the Critical Failure Surface (CFS) and corresponding Factor of Safety (FOS). A Finite Element Method (FEM) code is incorporated to convert the strong form of the Richar...

Organizational Black Hole Theory

There are issues in organizations that require new theoretical formulation. Hence, metaphorical theorizing is used in the study of organizations to interpret them and understand their complexities. In this method, the organization is likened to an entity and one of the key features of that entity is generalized to the organization. It should be borne in mind that most organizational theories ar...

Tuning of fuzzy logic controller using an improved black hole algorithm for maximizing power capture of ocean wave energy converters

Seas and oceans are the most important sources of renewable energy in the world. The main purpose of this paper is to use an appropriate control strategy to improve the performance of point absorbers. In this scheme, considering the high uncertainty in the parameters of the power take-off system in different atmospheric conditions, a new improved black hole algorithm is introduced to tune fuzzy...

Quasi-Periodic Oscillations from Rayleigh-Taylor and Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability at a Disk-Magnetosphere Interface

We consider the interface between an accretion disk and a magnetosphere surrounding the accreting mass. We argue that such an interface can occur not only with a magnetized neutron star but also sometimes with an unmagnetized neutron star or a black hole. The gas at the magnetospheric interface is generally Rayleigh-Taylor unstable and may also be Kelvin-Helmholtz unstable. Because of these ins...

Tachyons and Black Hole Horizons in Gauge Theory

Any probe which crosses the horizon of a black hole should be absorbed. In M(atrix) theory, for 0-brane probes of Schwarzschild black holes, we argue that the relevant absorption mechanism is a tachyon instability which sets in at the horizon. We give qualitative arguments, and some quantitative large-N calculations, in support of this claim. The tachyon instability provides an attractive mecha...
